Ayn Rand was a Russian American writer and philosopher who is best known for her two novels Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. She was born in Russia on Feb 2, 1905 as Alissa Rosenbaum and escaped to America at the age of 21. Her desire to write led her to America and her name change as she could not freely write in the Soviet Union. She is responsible for the philosophy of Objectivism which consists of reality, reason, self interest, and capitalism.
